All club coaches are contracted by the Club to coach our CanSkate and Power sessions as well as stroking and group lessons for our STARSkate sessions.
Once a skater enters the Intermediate / Senior level, they must retain a private base coach in order to complete assessments / tests or attend competitions.
A skater's base coach will teach all disciplines – freeskate, skills and dance.Coaches may also arrange lessons with another club coaches to supplement lessons.
COACHING FEES
Our professional coaches are all self-employed, and therefore set their own schedule and fees.
When registering for a STARSkate session, it’s important to note that session fees cover ice rental costs (Junior session fees also include group lessons). In addition to session fees, each skater may have a certain number of private or semi-private lessons.
Private coaches provide each skater/family with a bill - usually monthly – for their lessons. Your private coaching fees are expected to be paid in a timely fashion. Skaters with unpaid coaching fees may not be considered members in good standing, which could prevent a skater from registering for competitions or test days.
Parents and coaches work together to decide what their goals are for their child and how many lessons they wish to have per week to fit their budget and desires. You may wish to ask your coach to give your child group lessons with one or two other skaters to reduce costs. You can expect your coach to communicate with you regularly about how your child is progressing and what tests they will be ready to try and when. It is the skater’s responsibility to inform their coach of an absence from a lesson or you may be charged for that missed lesson.
FINDING A COACH
Every coach differs in style and philosophy, and it’s important for parents to make an informed choice on behalf of their skater. Parents know their child best! Be sure to give some thought to your skater’s learning style and personality, and then talk to a few coaches -- in addition to other skaters or parents -- to determine which coach would be the best fit for your skater. Ask your skater who they like working with on the ice.
Before making a final decision on a coach, be sure to check on his or her availability for the sessions you wish to book as not all coaches teach on every session. You should also determine the frequency of lessons per week.
Our coaches fill up quickly. It's important to speak with the and try to arrange lessons as soon as possible each season.
